Best Pan Mee In KL

Pan Mee was said to have originated in Kuala Lumpur and is still a much-appreciated dish today. Over the years, people have innovated many different types of pan mee, making it one of the most versatile forms of noodle one can taste in the country. From the traditional soup pan mee to the fiery dry chili pan mee, we’ve listed some of the best places for Pan Mee in KL for your easy reference!

Restaurant Super Kitchen

The name itself has been sprouting around KL like mushrooms, and even recently opened a branch in Singapore. The original shop in Kepong still operates today and stands as one of the busiest branches of the six. If you can’t decide between the traditional soup and chili pan mee, then have a go at the curry version of this dish. It’s getting the best of both worlds – soupy and spicy. Noodles here are thicker and firmer and prepared upon ordering. As for the secret behind their homemade chili, that has been a well-kept family recipe since they started.

Madam Chiam Curry Noodle House

She raves about her five-star curry noodles but it’s her dry chilli pan mee that gets the attention of customers. As with most shops, it’s served with minced pork, fragrant anchovies, and watery soft-boiled egg for added flavor. However, she rebels against the traditional hand-pinched/long and springy/soft and chewy pan mee that we’re all familiar with and serves egg noodles instead. But we won’t hold that against her! A small bowl of spinach soup to accompany your meal is an added bonus for your taste buds, so why not?

Restaurant Kin Kin
Another unassuming eatery, Restoran Kin Kin is located in a peculiar spot among mechanic shops and is best known for its chili pan mee. The noodles are purely handmade and are a big hit for their springy and chewy texture. To top it all off, each pan mee dish is completed with a soft poached egg, minced pork, and anchovies. Chilli flakes are unlimited so depending on how hot you can handle, feel free to top up as you go! Kin Kin has also been voted by the people as one of KL’s best cheap eats.

Tian Yake Mee Cendawan

Serving pan mee with the character since 1975! All noodles are rolled and flattened using a good ol’fashioned glass bottle and served with lots and lots of mushrooms. It may not be the most ideal place to set up a hawker stall, but that doesn’t stop customers from swarming in like moths to a flame! Mr Yong’s broth has a thick consistency that you can hardly find in most soup pan mees. If you opt to add an egg, they’ll crack one right onto the bottom of your bowl to slowly cook in piping hot soup. Raw pan mee is also available if you’re looking to cook your own!

Jojo Little Kitchen

This not-so-little restaurant is like the Willy Wonka factory of pan mee. Take a look at their menu and you’ll see a variety of flavors you might not even know about! Herbal chicken, century egg, hot and spicy, and fried pork pan mee are just a few unique versions of this noodle dish. The food here is on the pricier side but it still manages to keep its regular patrons coming for more. The secret ingredient of blended green chili and belacan mixed into a dry pan mee gives a taste that makes it authentically Jojo’s.

Ah Po Pan Mee

This famous and local Ampang favorite Ah Po Pan Mee has been serving great-tasting hand-made noodles for a long while now. Being a hidden gem for so long without losing quality throughout the years, you could say that they are a big deal. Along with that customers are able to add a lot of toppings, more noodles, and of course more chili! What's more, is that the food served here is so much more affordable even with the extra add-ons that you might want to order. Also, you would still be able to meet the Ah Po, or Grandma, whom the store is named after who makes the noodles daily.

Lian Kee Pan Mee

Run by a husband and wife, this humble hawker stall looks like your average neighborhood supper spot, but you’ll notice most of their customers are enjoying their plate of Pan mee. Over here you have three choices of noodles to choose from: thin, thick, or hand-pinched. The soup has a sweet taste, thanks to the hours of boiling pork bones and dried anchovies. The pan mee sells out pretty quickly so be sure to get there early, otherwise you would need to settle for their yee mee instead.

Chin Kee Pan Mee

If you’re going for the first time, you might become confused at the sight of a hawker stall inside an aged building. Follow the crowd and you’ll see that everyone patiently waits for available seats, despite the lunch rush. Garnished with super hot chili, anchovies, and black fungus, the black sauce with lard is the key to its mouthwatering taste. The chilli is said to be on the sweet side but that just means you can add more! Definitely worth a try if you’re in the area!
