Best Fine Dining In Kuching

Once in a while, it’s good to just leave your jeans at home and splurge in style at Kuching’s best fine-dining restaurants from the busy city center to the downtown gem inside a heritage monument. The phrase "Kuching fine dining" is almost an oxymoron, but when you want to dress up for a romantic dinner or splurge on a celebratory meal, there are some stellar spots in the city. You will never guess it, but when it comes to fine dining, Kuching excels. So, why don’t you try these restaurants whenever you want to celebrate a special occasion with your loved ones?

#1 Carvery Restaurant

Carvery-of-the-Abell-Hotel-

Open in 2000, Carvery Restaurant was the first place in Sarawak that open its door to its customers with the Brazilian 'churrascaria' concept. The idea is that servers serve from table to table with skewers of specially seasoned and slow-roasted meats prepared according to the Brazilian barbecue 'churrasco' method. Using savoir-faire showmanship, the staff slice these gastronomies tableside, making a sophisticated and generous feast. What’s even more interesting? At only RM88, you can eat all the meat that you can till full. For a fine dining place, that price is a value for money.

#2 Raintree Restaurant

Commonly praised as one of the best fine dining in Kuching, if not the country, Raintree Restaurant lives up to the hype. Chef de Cuisine, Virginia Kedit provides a well-orchestrated ride that plays with textures and temperatures while staying grounded in season, taste, and nearly perfect performance. The menu is regularly shifting, but recent hits have included buttered rice, baked chicken with olives and potato, Lasagna, Mediterranean lamb tagine, buttered prawns, and pan-seared fish with tomato coulis. Iconic dishes include roasted beef with roasted root vegetables and baked potato. But you never know what dish will steal the show when you’re in the audience.

#3 Zinc Restaurant and Bar

ZINC Restaurant & Bar, Kuching - Mediterranean Food - The Yum List

Credit: The Yum List

Zinc Restaurant and Bar is an "urbane" restaurant indeed. The interior dining space is precisely and exceptionally modified from an old shop house, while the alfresco dining area is a constructed infill space layered with local wood and covered over with purple wreath creeper vines. The Mediterranean-themed menu is brilliant as is though the owners are to be applauded for persistently improving or expanding choices. Drinking a chilled Guinness draft or sipping a glass of beautiful red wine with a live music background (on certain days), and soaking in the vibrancy of this place is mesmerizing.

Address: 38, Tabuan Rd, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak
Operating Hours: 6 pm–12 am(Mon closed)

#4 The Junk

The Junk Cafe @ Wayang Street, Kuching, Sarawak | Sarawak, Kuching, Ceiling lights
The Junk is not your typical fine-dining restaurant. It is chilled and laid back but nothing beats their delightful cuisine that can cost you quite a lot. The setting is all about Old World meets Art Deco meets Alice in Wonderland. It claims an exceptional charisma with its East-West menu and collection of antiques, treasures, and well, junk. You might be a bit disappointed about the lack of starched linen, polished silverware, and such like, however with the delish offerings on the menu you just will let that little flaw go. From their signature asparagus prawns to the fusion pizza, everything served here will simply satisfy you.

Address: 80, Wayang St, 93100 Kuching, Sarawak
Operating Hours: 6 pm–1 am(daily)
Contact: 082-259 450 | Facebook | Instagram
